DISASTER RECOVERY
Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath have made us all the more aware of the need for well planned and implemented disaster recovery strategies.
While working with fire, flood, and accident damaged artifacts has long been part of our Professional services, we have become undisputed experts in our respective fields after living through both Katrina and Rita (we all live and work in the Gulf Coast region), as well as assisting our clients with their collections through the aftermath and recovery.
As fellow colleagues, we have joined together to offer our services in this particular area. Disaster recovery requires not only expertise in the assessment and treatment of objects post-disaster, but requires a knowledge and sensitivity to the traumatic circumstances that have brought said clients and artifacts to us.
The principals represented here are:
Blake Vonder Haar, The New Orleans Conservation Guild, Inc.;
Jessica Hack, Jessica Hack Textile Restoration;
Richard Branyan, Lower Lodge Conservation and Museum Services

In order to provide detailed condition assessments and treatment proposals, objects will need to be examined firsthand. They can be sent directly to the appropriate conservator’s studio (see above email and web links).
Based on the results of treatment assessment, a proposal will be prepared indicating a suggested method of treatment and the costs involved therein.
If necessary, on-site evaluation can be provided. In addition to consultation fees, travel costs will be borne by the client.
