Philip Thompson

Phil Thompson has studied drawing and painting at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts since the mid-1980s. In 1990, he won the Academy's Stuempfig Award for excellence.

He is a member of Pone Aliquid, a group of artists that meets on Thursday
evenings for figure drawing and on Saturday mornings for landscape and
portrait painting. He has shown his paintings at the Dante Street Deli,
Crescent City Brew House, Coliseum Square Home Tour, and Bayou St. John
Gallery. His work is permanently on display at the New Orleans Conservation
Guild and the Bywater Art Fair.

Thompson paints in oils, both polychrome and monochrome (sepia). He is
particularly interested in the houses and buildings of New Orleans, although
he also paints landscapes (especially beaches), still lifes, and figures
(both nude and not).

Throughout his artistic career, Thompson has benefitted from the
encouragement and instruction of his teacher and mentor, Dell Weller.
