Exhibiting at
the Bywater Art Market
Thank
you for your interest in the New Orleans Bywater Art Market! The
Art Market was begun in May of 2002 with the intention of creating
a venue for artists to sell their work directly to the public
and for the public to buy affordable, quality, original works
of art directly from the artists, thereby eliminating the high
gallery mark-ups and commissions. Additionally, there are so many
artists without galleries or any outlet to sell. Frankly, not
everyone should be in a gallery, but that doesn't mean the work
is without merit or salability. The Art Market is an attempt to
resolve both issues.
After more than 2 years, the Market has grown by leaps and bounds.
We have reviewed where we have been and where we were headed,
and are now in the process of re-inventing it. We have made the
decision to stay away from traditional Crafts and focus the market
more on Fine Art (i.e. traditional gallery media). We are committed
to promoting the Fine Arts as we feel there are so few outlets
outside of the traditional gallery settings which focus mainly
on fine artists and there are seemingly lots of outlets for crafters.
